that is such a sad story --- how awful that the poor dog had been shot unnecessarily as it turned out, though I can totally see why it was done. And I knew not one thing about that history ------ literally the only 'history' I know of the Channel Islands during WWII is what is told in the film with Tom Courtenay and the gorgeous Michiel Huisman in it - the Guernsey Potato Peel Pie something.
Thank you for sharing that history. It is fascinating.
do you know that there is going to be a programme on C4 about Liberation Day on the Channel Islands - it's called Notes from ... I can't remember, I just saw an ad for it, I think it starts next week. But from what I can remember it's about islanders' recollections of life under Nazi occupation ... you can probably get it on that Playback thing that Channel 4 has
Thank you for sharing this. I think that there are so many WWII stories that run the risk of being lost. We heard them straight from those who lived them. It is our responsibility to keep them alive. Really interesting. I knew the Channel Islands were occupied, but I did not know about the German air raids.
I loved reading this Sue. This is history that we all should know about x
A story that needs telling during these challenging times so we never forget! Thank you, Sue! 🙏
