Taken moderately, I’m sure that the doctor will approve if you were to shift to dark chocolate and red wine. It would also solve my problem of every time I go off to watch a football match, wondering whether you are attempting to commit suicide, eating rubbish sugar heavy emulsified milk substances!!
Oh Sue! This was B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T 😂🥰! You had me laughing out loud throughout ... my dogs looking at me as if to ask "Has she gone mad?!?" I do hope your health is okay though and that you're taking very good care of yourself. Enjoy those stolen nibbles of Divine! 🤗xx
thanks Helen, that means a lot to me. I am fine thanks, the control by diet didn't stand a chance with me so now I'm on statins and when they were precribed I asked 'Does this mean I can eat chocolate and drink gin?' She sighed, rolled her eyes, shook her head and said 'Yes' in a way that actually meant - I don't approve but you will anyway. Happy days! xx
You are one of my most favourite writers Sue…I love your wit, your intellect in which you write, your ability to bring the reader with you every step 😂 and fall too 😂 and I just cannot stop midway in your words ever and that is the biggest compliment I can ever give. Because to hold my attention is quite a talent when it comes to words. I love writing but I’m not the best reader overall but when I spot your name, your newsletter, your words, I’m completely hooked & committed. You are a brilliant words master or mistress 😂😂 oh that somehow seems insulting 😂😂 but since you know me, you know it’s not because I love you & I love your writing. You are so gifted & never forget it! ✨✨✨✨Podcasts, books, audio & written, tv shows & every other platform should have Sue Du Feu’s words are their center 💖💖
Brilliant as ever, Sue! I laughed out loud at the chocolate trail and your very British efforts not to even consider chucking it out for the greater good 😆 Although I was feeling slightly bad at laughing at your pain and ouch! Giving up chocolate, that’s gotta hurt.
More seriously though, as is common, after a cancer diagnosis I tried to think what I could change to ensure if the treatment did work - it did, and amen to that - in an effort to do my utmost to stop it happening again. Trouble was, don’t hate me, but I’m naturally quite a healthy soul as I’ve always loved sport and do err towards veggie food, never been a big cake eater (but I do love chocolate…). However, there was loads in the news at the time about highly processed food like sausages perhaps being carcinogenic, so that became my mission. I stopped eating sausages, bacon and ham, and stuff like that, from that day forward and I swear I have never looked back. Now and again I’ll eat them if someone’s been kind enough to cook them and sssh! I don’t let on, but otherwise, they don’t even enter my consciousness. It’s like a switch has been pressed in my brain and it never gives them a second thought.
Oooops, this wasn’t meant to be a serious comment but is turning into one - just to say that you might find if you do go cold turkey on chocolate and/or some of the things in the red list, very quickly you won’t actually care/notice… and if all else fails, your efforts to avoid them will make hilarious substacks, I have no doubt 😘😆
I hear you Jackie, and I know you are wise, but while the spirit agrees, the flesh is very weak and I'm now on statins because I couldn't (wouldn't) stick to the rules. However I only buy processed food, (ham, lardons), if it states 'no nitrates' and we can't get bacon in France thankfully! xx
Just remembered one of my sister’s and friends’ attempts to give up chocolate back at uni in the triples-for-a-pound days, and which had the knock on effect for many of us of never, ever drinking certain spirits again. They decided to apply this phenomenon to chocolate, spending a chunk of their student grants on a mound of chocolate, renting some videos, and settling in to a night of film and as much chocolate as they could possibly eat. It went well, great night, much fun, all went to bed feeling sick and with stomach cramps, so all boded well. Next morning they wake and… finish off all the chocolate they couldn’t eat the night before 🤭😆🤭😆
The parts about trading gin for taramasalata (impeccable logic in my opinion! lol!) and eating a lot of the chocolate right away. to "get it over with" had me in stitches, probably because I can relate to them all too easily! :-). Really enjoyable piece!

Thanks Ali, glad my logic is in tune with yours. Just commonsense…
Absolutely! lol!
Brilliant! I loved this Sue, so funny! It reminded me a bit of Bridget Jones :)
