Thank you for brightening my breakfast! You were great company. And thanks for the reminder that my day could be worse. I could be trying to get somewhere by train...

Chortle chortle! Sorry to laugh at your pain, Sue, but that did make me chuckle - all the more so because I have definitely 'been there', and don't get me started on the 'planned engineering works' - not when we bought our tickets they weren't - on a busy Sunday at Kings Cross from which Every Single North East Coast train was cancelled and we had to divert via St Pancras.

OK, I've started so I'l carry on ;)

So, no great loss to go over the road to St Pancras, I absolutely love that station, but it's not quite the same when you have a small city's worth of expectant passengers all waiting for the 4.30pm to Sheffield, to then all wait for the onward travel to Leeds, in a line that doubled the extent of the platform to the furthest exit, and back again - I kid you not. We were a 'little surprised' that they hadn't laid on extra trains for the, planned/not planned very well, engineering works.

Still, we could sit in any seat on the train we eventually managed to shoehorn our way into, so us four friends ended our girls' trip with an unchallenged table in first class, hehe!

Always love your writing, Sue, really makes me smile. Thank you!

Oh Sue, I just love your writing, it reminds me of Alan Bennet— the attention to detail and the tongue in cheek undertone. There were so many lines I loved- this is one of many "I swear the carriage physically sagged with the combined weight of 80 passenger’s groans." Fantastic!

thanks Susannah, I appreciate that coming from you. I do love Alan Bennett, he's long been a hero of mine, as is David Sedaris. I have nothing in my head for next month, hopefully some scratchy idea will arrive in time to be worked on! Hope we'll talk soon when we're in the same time zone x

Yes that would be lovely and I am sure your observational skills will bring us something equally delightful next month!
